The King of Nitric Oxide, Blood Boosting, Detoxification and More
These are a potent vegetable that many people are aware of some of the health benefits of. But how often do you eat them? Even otherwise healthy people like myself probably find the answer is not much…
Sure, you may occasionally have some beet juice, some roasted beets as a side, or beet borscht but how often is that really? Hopefully you’ve tried fermented beet kvass once in your life…but most people probably haven’t even heard of that.
When you read about all the benefits beets can bring, as you’ll find below, you’ll find out why you want to eat these for more regularly. While we completely encourage you to do so, the fact is that you may still find you’re not getting enough.
And that’s where our great tasting, 100% organic, cold-processed beet juice powder comes in.
Beets and Nitric Oxide
One of beets most popular benefits comes from the dietary nitrates it provides.
Nitrates were thought to be inert substances; however, it has been discovered that the human body, actually the bacteria we house in our microbiome specifically, enzymatically transform these to form nitric oxide or NO.
What does this mean for you? NO is necessary for proper blood flow and functioning. Most notably:
- NO is important for healthy heart function.
- NO is important for supporting athletic function and workouts, increasing recovery, decreasing fatigue, and providing better energy.
- NO is important for erectile function.
- NO is important for brain function.
Yes, nitric oxide is important for both the things that guys think with 😉
The nitrates in beets have been found close to 100% bioavailable through digestion.
Multiple studies have looked at the benefits of beets and nitrates and have found them to be effective for supporting healthy endothelial function.
Multiple studies have also found that nitrates and beets to be effective in supporting healthy blood pressure.
And you would think that beets and performance in the bedroom has been studied, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find any research on it, not even in mice or rats. So, it is theorized to work through the same nitric oxide supporting effects that are responsible for normal erectile functioning.
Natural nitric oxide supplement is just ONE of the many components and benefits of organic beet juice powder though…
That Red Color…Antioxidants!
Another powerful group of compounds inside beet roots are betalains.
These are further grouped based on colors. The red-violet color in beets come from betacyanins. There is also yellow-orange betaxanthins present. These are powerful antioxidants that work to quell oxidative stress in the body.
Juiced beets run red just like your blood, a clue to the positive effects they have on it.
One of these antioxidant compounds is known as betanin. “Betanin’s high antioxidant activity appeared to stem from its exceptional electron donating capacity and ability to defuse highly reactive radicals targeting cell membranes”
But that is just one of many antioxidants. Others include rutin, epicatechin, caffeic acid and more. Even the nitrates have been shown to have antioxidant benefits.
While research is still early, a review on the literature concluded, “This raises the possibility that beetroot’s antioxidant potential is not limited to just scavenging and suppressing [free radicals], but includes the ability to reinforce the endogenous antioxidant network.”
If true, that means that beet juice powder can not only support your body directly but helps it better support itself.
DMG and TMG (aka Betaine) Support Detoxification
Dimethylglycine and trimethylglycine (the latter of which is also known as betaine, since it was first derived from beets) are other potent molecules found in beets.
Both of these are methyl donors, with DMG having two molecules to donate, and TMG having three.
The process of methylation involves attaching these methyl donors to proteins, including enzymes, hormones and even DNA and RNA, as well as to heavy metals.
While methylation plays many roles in the body, the most notable is that it helps your body to detoxify various toxins. Supporting methylation is extra important today because of the added pollution we’re all under.
Plus, in rats, beet juice showed increased activity of phase II detoxifying enzymes.
Beet Juice Powder for Athletes
While some studies have provided contradictory results, many have found positive benefits. A systemic review stated:
“The available results suggest that supplementation with beetroot juice can improve cardiorespiratory endurance in athletes by increasing efficiency, which improves performance at various distances, increases time to exhaustion at submaximal intensities, and may improve the cardiorespiratory performance at anaerobic threshold intensities and maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max).”
In short, more nitric oxide supplements allow for greater muscle function, which can impact your performance.
Beet Juice Powder for Cognitive Function
Blood flows to the brain. As such you might expect this can bring some beneficial effects.
“It is conceivable that a NO generator like beetroot has the potential to improve cerebrovascular blood flow and challenge detriments in cognitive function.”
A high nitrate diet, including organic beet juice powder showed, via MRI, increased blood flow to the frontal cortex, a part of the brain responsible for executive function, working memory and task switching.
Limited research has been done in this area. In one study of older type 2 diabetics, nitrate rich beet juice taken for two weeks saw increases in reaction time, though not in the other cognitive tests done.
It’s not going to be a powerful nootropic…but it’ll likely keep you healthier so that everything works better over time.
Historical Use of Beets
Many of the historical use of beets for various conditions has not been heavily investigated at all. Some of these include:
- Assisting in Menstrual Health
- Eye Health
- Cleansing the Colon
- And more
Famous herbalist, Nicholas Culpepper said of beets that “The juice of it openeth obstructions both of the liver and spleen and is good for the headache and swimming therein, and turnings of the brain.”

Note: There is a tiny amount (less than 2%) of silicon dioxide used as an anti-caking agent. This same compound is found naturally in many founds…including beets! The fact is that silica is likely a necessary component of our diets. (This is probably in any other beet juice powder on the market too…even if they don’t say it is.)
Our powder tastes great. Beets contain natural sugars, so unlike many of our other herbs, this one tastes sweet. That also makes it a great herb to using in mixing with others.
How to Take Beet Juice Powder
One tablespoon is approximately 10 grams of powder. This is the equivalent to almost half a cup of beets juiced.
